If performance for 3D work, machine learning, or gaming is a priority and price is less of a concern, the Dell Alienware m15 R7 is the better choice, but it sacrifices portability and has shorter battery life. However, for users seeking a balance between price and general use, with a larger screen for better productivity, and longer battery life, the Acer Aspire 5 17 offers a more cost-effective solution, though it may not perform as well in highly demanding tasks. How the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the Dell Alienware m15 R7 compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
"The Alienware M15 offers solid gaming and leading endurance. It makes the most of its CPU and GPU while delivering stellar battery life for a gaming laptop. Opening the lid presents a full-size keyboard with honeycomb cutouts above it on the deck. An oblong RBG lightning element surrounds the entire rear panel and can be color-synced with the other lights on the laptop. There’s not a lot to dislike about the M15 Its productivity performance lagged in some areas, particularly in the storage benchmark, and it’s a bit heavy. Alienware has a clear winner here with the M15 based on its strong overall performance and endurance."
