If you prioritize performance for tasks like 3D rendering, machine learning, or intensive engineering software, the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 with its powerful AMD processor and Nvidia GPU is the superior option. However, the Acer Aspire 5 17 is more budget-friendly, offers competent general usage performance, and is slightly lighter for better portability, but it doesn't match the Zenbook's prowess in demanding tasks. The ASUS also boasts significantly more storage and memory. Both devices have similar screen size and types but the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 has a better battery life, providing longer usage between charges. If your primary focus is on gaming, the ASUS is better suited due to its dedicated graphics card, but if your needs are more towards everyday productivity and cost efficiency, the Acer Aspire might serve you well. The ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 is very good for general use, while the Acer Aspire 5 17 is good.
The ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 offers superior performance with a more powerful processor and much more RAM than the Acer Aspire 5 17, accommodating intensive tasks and multitasking more efficiently. While both have good-quality 17-inch screens, the Zenbook also excels in screen brightness and color coverage, ensuring vivid and accurate visuals, but it is heavier and has slightly lower portability compared to the lightweight Aspire, which might be more convenient for on-the-go use.

The ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 and Acer Aspire 5 17 are both only fair for gaming and AI, though the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 is somewhat better.
The ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 offers a superior gaming experience with its dedicated Nvidia RTX 3050 graphics card and higher screen brightness, both contributing to smoother visuals and better display quality compared to the Acer Aspire 5 17's integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics and lower brightness screen, which may limit its gaming performance and visual fidelity. Although both laptops have the same screen refresh rate, the more powerful GPU on the ASUS makes it better suited for gaming and 3D applications.

The ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 is very good for engineering and design, while the Acer Aspire 5 17 is only fair.
The Acer Aspire 5 17 offers less robust computing power with its lower-spec CPU and less RAM, which could limit performance for demanding engineering tasks, and its integrated graphics are less capable for design work compared to dedicated options. The ASUS Zenbook Pro 17, on the other hand, boasts a high-end CPU, plentiful RAM, and a strong dedicated GPU, allowing for superior performance in engineering and design applications; however, it is also heavier which affects portability slightly more than the lighter Acer.

The ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 5 17 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The Acer Aspire 5 17's display may suffice for general tasks due to acceptable resolution and brightness but lacks the vibrant color gamut required for precise engineering and design work and has a lower refresh rate that doesn’t match the smoothness needed for 3D or gaming. The ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 offers a higher color accuracy and better resolution which benefits professionals in engineering and design who need to see fine details and true colors but isn't optimized for gaming or 3D because of its limited refresh rate. Both laptops are more aligned to productivity and professional work rather than gaming which demands a high refresh rate for fluid visuals.

"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
