The Acer Aspire 5 17 is less expensive and more suitable for general use, with decent performance for daily tasks, a lighter weight for better portability, and a longer battery life that can be convenient for on-the-go usage. On the other hand, the ASUS TUF Gaming A17 is a higher-priced option that provides substantial improvements in performance for 3D rendering, machine learning, engineering applications, and intense gaming, along with a more color-accurate screen and better build quality. However, it is heavier and has a shorter battery life, which means it is less portable than the Acer Aspire 5 17. Give Feedback

The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 is very good for general use, while the Acer Aspire 5 17 is good.
The Acer Aspire 5 17 offers a solid balance for general use with a capable Intel i5 CPU, sufficient RAM, and a quality IPS screen, all wrapped in a lighter package, enhancing portability while also providing good battery life. Meanwhile, the ASUS TUF Gaming A17 steps up performance with a higher-tier AMD Ryzen 9 CPU and more RAM, a stronger GPU for demanding tasks, a quality IPS display as well, but trades off with reduced portability due to its heavier build and focuses on longevity with an extended battery life.

The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 is very good for engineering and design, while the Acer Aspire 5 17 is only fair.
The Acer Aspire 5 17 has an Intel i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and is noted for its screen quality due to a high contrast ratio, making it fair for engineering and design, but the ASUS TUF Gaming A17 with its more powerful AMD Ryzen 9 CPU, double the RAM, and a dedicated graphics card stands out, making it very good for demanding tasks despite having a lower screen contrast ratio. Portability and other factors like keyboard and speaker quality, though somewhat important, play a secondary role to these critical performance determinants.

The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 5 17 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, both the Acer Aspire 5 17 and ASUS TUF Gaming A17 offer screens that don’t stand out in terms of resolution or brightness, impacting the overall quality and viewing experience. In engineering and design, the same screens may not cover wider color gamuts such as DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB fully, which is crucial for color-critical workflows, resulting in only a fair evaluation. When it comes to 3D, the lower refresh rates may not be ideal for fluid graphics rendering, making both laptops less suitable for high-frame rate gaming or intensive 3D applications despite their acceptable resolution and panel types.

How the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the ASUS TUF Gaming A17 compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
"There is one big question that needs an answer. Is the TUF Gaming A17 FA707 a better purchase than the ROG Strix G17 G713R (2022)? Well, it depends. Undoubtedly, the Strix is the more premium product. Arguably the biggest advantage it has over its TUF fellow is in regards to the display. ASUS TUF Gaming A17 A707’s IPS panel has a Full HD resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and a very good contrast ratio."
