The Acer Aspire 5 17 is more budget-friendly and has a larger screen, which is beneficial for productivity and general use. It's lighter and has a longer battery life, making it more suitable for mobility. The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15, on the other hand, offers higher performance, especially for 3D rendering, machine learning, and gaming, due to its powerful processor and graphics card. It has a faster screen refresh rate and better color coverage, which is important for intensive gaming and creative work. The tradeoff is that it's heavier and has a shorter battery life, meaning it's less portable and more suited for stationary use. Give Feedback

The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 5 17 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
When considering a laptop for general use, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15's superior resolution and brightness make it well-suited for a variety of everyday tasks, while the Acer Aspire 5 17 offers a satisfactory display that may not be as vibrant but is adequate for routine activities. For engineering and design, the ASUS' good screen quality is attributed to its broader color gamut coverage, providing more accurate color representation which is essential for precision work, while the Acer's fair screen quality might lack somewhat in color accuracy. In the realm of gaming and 3D, although both laptops have poor screen quality due to lower refresh rates, high refresh rates are crucial for smooth visuals, and this is where the refresh rate shortcomings of each may be more noticeable, impacting the gaming or 3D modeling experience.

How the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
"Asus continues to refine the ROG Strix Scar lineup with new upgrades. The Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 offers almost everything you would expect from a gaming laptop at this price. The build quality is great, connectivity options are decent, and there is enough scope for internal upgrades as well. Asus reverts to membrane switches for the keyboard — though not as "clickety" as the opto-mechanical ones we saw with last year's model, they still make for a decent typing and gaming experience. The lack of biometrics in any form is a downer."
