The Acer Aspire 5 17 is significantly less expensive than the ASUS ROG Flow X16 and offers a larger screen, making it suitable for general use and basic tasks. However, the ASUS ROG Flow X16 has superior performance for 3D, machine learning, and gaming due to its more powerful processor and GPU. The ASUS also boasts a higher resolution touchscreen with better color accuracy and higher brightness. It's a good fit for engineering tasks and intensive gaming, with its higher refresh rate aiding in smoother visuals. In regards to portability, both laptops are similar in weight, but the Acer Aspire has a slightly longer battery life which is beneficial when on the go. If budget is a constraint and the laptop's use will be mainly for general tasks, the Acer Aspire 5 17 is a strong choice; conversely, if performance in specialized tasks is paramount and budget less of a concern, the ASUS ROG Flow X16 is the better option. NotebookCheck

Marcus Schwarten | March 2021
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."

NotebookCheck

Christian Hintze | June 2023
"Above all else, the Asus ROG Flow X16 is one thing - versatile! It is a thin, mobile work device, it's a 2-in-1, tablet, a powerful workstation and even a gaming PC. But something even more surprising: It does all of these things really well without making any big blunders. It's anything but a lazy compromise. Because, despite its compact dimensions and 2-in-1 functionality, the hardware isn't throttled and boasts, at least in turbo mode, above-average performance."
