If you prioritize battery life and a higher-quality display for tasks like photo editing or watching movies, then the Apple MacBook Air 15 would be a better option. It also has a better build quality, speaker, webcam, and is significantly lighter, making it more portable. However, for those who need more storage space out of the box and prefer a larger screen for multitasking or productivity, the Acer Aspire 5 17 could be a more suitable choice. It's also typically less expensive than the MacBook Air, but you will compromise on battery life, display quality, and portability. Give Feedback

The Apple MacBook Air 15 (2023) and Acer Aspire 5 17 are both good for general use, though the Apple MacBook Air 15 (2023) is somewhat better.
The Acer Aspire 5 17 offers a good balance for general use, featuring essential components like an Intel i5 CPU, and ample RAM, along with a 17.3-inch screen that provides decent screen quality and color accuracy. The Apple MacBook Air 15, on the other hand, stands out with its Apple M2 chip and higher resolution 15.3-inch display, promoting enhanced performance and screen clarity, plus it is more portable and offers a silent operation, but at the expense of a smaller screen size and a higher price point.

The Apple MacBook Air 15 (2023) is good for engineering and design, while the Acer Aspire 5 17 is only fair.
The Apple MacBook Air 15 (2023) is better suited for engineering and design due to its superior CPU and GPU performance, as both are integrated into the Apple M2 chip, which is well-regarded for its efficiency and power, complemented by a high-resolution, color-accurate screen that makes it a good choice for design work. In contrast, the Acer Aspire 5 17 has a less powerful Intel i5 CPU and Iris Xe graphics, with a lower resolution display, making it fair for engineering tasks but not as optimal for design work that requires a high-quality display; plus, its larger size and weight make it less portable than the MacBook.

The Apple MacBook Air 15 has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 5 17 for general use, AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The Acer Aspire 5 17 likely has a decent resolution and brightness but may lack the color accuracy and gamut ranges needed for professional engineering and design tasks, hence its fair screen quality assessment in these areas; for gaming and 3D work, it probably has a lower refresh rate, making it less suitable. The Apple MacBook Air 15 (2023), with its high resolution and superior color coverage, offers excellent visuals for general computing and professional work that relies on color precision. However, for 3D applications where fast refresh rates are crucial, both laptops have poorer screen quality as they presumably do not prioritize high refresh rates that gaming and 3D modeling often require.

How the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the Apple MacBook Air 15 (2023) compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
"The Apple MacBook Air 15 is boringly good. The new MacBook Air 15 is a very good, but also boring device, because apart from the larger screen and the higher price, there are no differences compared to the smaller MacBook Air M2 from last year. No new processor, no additional ports, just the usual basic hardware - but the overall package is extremely good and it simply works. Above all, the lack of fans is an aspect that should not be underestimated in everyday use. In our opinion, the Air could be a lot better, but Apple goes easy on itself here."
