When choosing between the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 and the HP 17" Laptop, consider how much you value portability and battery life compared to performance and screen size. The Acer Aspire offers a smaller, more portable form with better battery life, making it ideal for on-the-go users who don't need high performance. Its touchscreen and 2-in-1 form factor add versatility for general use like browsing and productivity tasks. The HP 17" Laptop, with a larger screen, more RAM, and a more powerful processor, is better suited for demanding tasks like 3D rendering or engineering software, but it's heavier and has a shorter battery life, making it less portable. The HP 17" Laptop is only fair for engineering and design, while the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is poor.
The HP 17" Laptop outperforms the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 for engineering and design use due to its more powerful AMD Ryzen processor, double the RAM, and a higher-quality GPU, which are very important for demanding software used in these fields. Additionally, the larger screen of the HP may offer better screen quality but at the cost of reduced portability and possibly higher operating noise compared to the fanless Acer, considerations that are somewhat important depending on user preference.

The HP 17" Laptop has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 for general use, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, both the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 and the HP 17" Laptop offer screens with sufficient resolution and brightness, making them suitable for everyday tasks like browsing and video streaming. In engineering and design, their screens may lack the wide color gamuts necessary for precise color work, although they can handle less color-critical tasks. Gamers and 3D designers may find the refresh rates on these laptops limiting, as they are not as high as specialized gaming laptops which offer smoother motion and better rendering of fast-paced visuals.

The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14, with its Intel UHD Graphics Xe integrated GPU and 60Hz refresh rate screen, offers basic performance suitable for casual gaming and light 3D applications, but falls short for intensive gaming sessions or complex 3D work. Meanwhile, the HP 17" Laptop, with its AMD Ryzen Vega 8 integrated GPU and also a 60Hz screen, can manage fair gaming and 3D tasks a bit better due to a more powerful CPU and GPU, but like the Acer, it's not built for high-end gaming or professional 3D applications.

How the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 and the HP 17" Laptop compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and Yannick Khong | November 2023
"The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is okay for school use. It feels reasonably well-built, and its compact design makes it easy to carry around. The battery lasts around seven hours of light use, so you only have to plug it in for a short time to get through a typical school day. The overall user experience is so-so; the display looks sharp but dim, and the touchpad is fairly responsive, albeit small."
"As far as starter laptops go, the HP Laptop 17 is a sound investment. Sure, it might not be the lightest of options, but what you get for the price is a well-rounded machine that fits multiple niches. Whether it be office duties that require you to multi-task between multiple programs, or study tasks in which you’ll spend hours browsing online, this laptop does it all. Plus, when it's time to unwind, you can watch your favorite shows or movies on a super-wide display. What's best of all is that you can do all this for about half a day on a single charge."
