For general use, the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is an affordable, portable choice with lower performance, suitable for basic tasks, with longer battery life and a touchscreen. If you prioritize high-end gaming or demanding engineering applications and don't mind a higher price and less portability, the Dell Alienware m15 R7 offers powerful hardware, a better display for fast-motion content, and features for intensive computing but has a shorter battery life. The Dell Alienware m15 R7 has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14's fair screen quality for general use is due to acceptable resolution and brightness but it may lack the panel quality, resulting in less vivid colors and sharpness. For engineering and design, the screen's limited color gamut means it won't display colors as accurately as needed for precise work. Although the Dell Alienware m15 R7 offers very good quality for both general use and engineering with a high resolution and wide color gamut, its screen falls short for gaming and 3D due to a lower refresh rate, which is less smooth for fast-paced visuals.

How the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 and the Dell Alienware m15 R7 compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and Yannick Khong | November 2023
"The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is okay for school use. It feels reasonably well-built, and its compact design makes it easy to carry around. The battery lasts around seven hours of light use, so you only have to plug it in for a short time to get through a typical school day. The overall user experience is so-so; the display looks sharp but dim, and the touchpad is fairly responsive, albeit small."
"The Alienware M15 offers solid gaming and leading endurance. It makes the most of its CPU and GPU while delivering stellar battery life for a gaming laptop. Opening the lid presents a full-size keyboard with honeycomb cutouts above it on the deck. An oblong RBG lightning element surrounds the entire rear panel and can be color-synced with the other lights on the laptop. There’s not a lot to dislike about the M15 Its productivity performance lagged in some areas, particularly in the storage benchmark, and it’s a bit heavy. Alienware has a clear winner here with the M15 based on its strong overall performance and endurance."
