If you frequently make calls or attend meetings, the Audio Technica ATH-TWX7 with its excellent mic and call quality would be a more suitable choice. For traveling or gym use, the Audio Technica's sweatproof certification and active noise cancelling features offer additional versatility. However, if you value a very high level of sound isolation and prefer not having to charge your earbuds, the Etymotic ER4XR might be the better fit with its excellent noise isolation and wired connection, although it does not support wireless use, unlike the Audio Technica. Keep in mind the Audio Technica also supports app controls, LDAC codec for high-quality audio over Bluetooth, and a low latency mode, which is great for TV and video, while the Etymotic is more basic without app support or advanced codecs. "There’s plenty to like about the ATH-TWX7. A robust set of features brings a lot of convenience to your day. But a few of those tools could still use some fine-tuning and the lack of automatic pausing in 2024 is a head scratcher. Still, the audio is mostly good, and transparency mode is better than most. Add in the solid call quality and the in-app voice test and the ATH-TWX7 are a worthy consideration, especially at this price. Too bad it falls short of being a more complete package some of the competition offers for a slightly larger investment."
"The Etymotic ER4XRs' top qualities are the detail and definition of the midrange, rewarding the closest listening. While the soundstage is large rather than gigantic, the excellent separation and spatial precision mean you can dive deep into music just as much as when wearing a pair of full-size open-backed headphones."
