The AKG K712 Pro headphones are open-back and tend to offer a more natural and spacious sound which is excellent for music and critical listening, but they don't isolate noise well, so they're not ideal in noisy environments. They may also require a dedicated amplifier for the best experience. On the other hand, the Bose 700 headphones feature active noise cancelling which makes them better for use in noisy situations and they have an integrated microphone which is handy for calls. They're closed-back and more versatile for different environments but might not deliver as wide a soundstage as the AKGs. If you primarily listen in quiet spaces and want the most natural sound, go with the AKG K712 Pro, but if you need versatility and noise cancellation, the Bose 700 would be better for you. "AKG has created a mini-masterpiece in my opinion. I enjoy this headphone a great deal and it will become my go-to reference headphone for the time being. She is slick, sexy, well-balanced, and crazy comfortable."

Sound Guys

Adam Molina | June 2023
"Bose took active noise canceling and made it mainstream but eventually, the market caught up. Well, it seems like Bose was listening, because the Noise Canceling Headphones 700 is a complete redesign of its iconic product. The Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 have a new design, improved sound quality, a touch-sensitive gesture pad for playback controls, and even USB-C charging."
