The Lenovo Legion 5 15" is very good for engineering and design, while the MSI Prestige 15 is good.
The Lenovo Legion 5 stands out for engineering and design due to its higher resolution screen and more powerful Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU, which are vital for tasks requiring graphic intensity and detail. While the MSI Prestige 15 is more portable and offers a higher color accuracy, it has a lower resolution, and its Nvidia GTX 1650 Max-Q GPU is less capable for highly demanding engineering applications.

The Lenovo Legion 5 15" has a better screen than the MSI Prestige 15 for general use, gaming and AI, and engineering and design.
When considering the Lenovo Legion 5 and MSI Prestige 15 for general use, both offer displays with adequate resolution and brightness, which ensures sharp, clear images and good visibility under most lighting conditions. For engineering and design, the screens on both laptops provide a range of colors that can help professionals accurately represent their work, although the smaller color gamuts compared to specialized screens mean colors might not be as vivid. However, for gaming and 3D applications, both laptops lack high refresh rates, leading to less smooth visuals, which can detract from fast-paced action and detailed 3D rendering.

The MSI Prestige 15 and Lenovo Legion 5 15" are both good for general use.
The Lenovo Legion 5 15" offers solid performance for general use with a powerful CPU, ample RAM, and a high-quality screen; however, it's less portable and has a shorter battery life than the MSI Prestige 15, which also has an efficient CPU and sufficient RAM for general tasks, in a lighter build with longer battery life, making it more suitable for users who need to work on the go. While both laptops offer quality screens for their price, the Legion’s higher resolution and refresh rate could be more appealing to users prioritizing display over the Prestige’s more color-accurate but less pixel-dense screen.

How the Lenovo Legion 5 15" and the MSI Prestige 15 compare to other laptops
"The Lenovo Legion 5 15 is an affordable gaming laptop with a lot of power. The new AMD processor Ryzen 7 5800H offers plenty of performance and it is also very efficient. The combination with the fast 130W version of the GeForce RTX 3060 ensures high gaming performance. We also like the fast 165 Hz display with the 1080p resolution. The automatic graphics switching causes some problems with stutters, which are very annoying. If you do not need long battery runtimes, you should definitely deactivate the hybrid graphics mode in Lenovo's Vantage app. The Legion 5 15 is never silent."
"The MSI Prestige 15 offers a dazzling 4K image quality, and solid performance. The MSI Prestige 15 appears to consistently implement the guiding principle of throttling the solid and efficient hardware to such an extent that content creation succeeds perfectly. Performance-hungry tasks, on the other hand, are slowed down a little by the reduced power consumption. Conversely, this means that the case remains relatively cool and the dual fan subdued. The battery life also benefits somewhat. So the losses aren't really dramatic because full performance is still available for short bursts."
