The HP 15" Laptop offers a balance for those on a budget, providing a large 15.6-inch screen with touchscreen capabilities, albeit at a lower resolution. It's not the lightest is, but still reasonably portable. This laptop is equipped with a considerable amount of RAM and a sizeable storage capacity. It runs on an Intel i3 processor with integrated graphics, which is sufficient for general use, but may lack the necessary power for intensive 3D rendering, gaming, or engineering applications. Battery life is adequate for typical use, and the keyboard includes a number pad, although it is not backlit and there are no biometric security features. The build and heat management are fair and it has a variety of ports including USB-C, but lacks Thunderbolt support. Suitable for general use and those who prioritize budget and screen size over high performance and screen resolution. Give Feedback

Ratings by Category

Operating Noise:
4.6
PerfectRec’s Operating Noise Score is based on fan noise measurements. Laptops with a fanless design, such as Macbooks, receive the maximum score.
Portability:
4.3
PerfectRec’s portability rating takes into account the volume and thickness of the laptop as well as its weight.
General Use:
4.2
The HP 15" Laptop is good for general use due to its ample RAM and a capable Intel i3 processor, providing smooth operation for everyday tasks. Its 15.6-inch screen offers a comfortable viewing size, although the screen quality is basic, affecting how content looks but not the system's ability to handle general tasks.
Content Creation:
4.2
PerfectRec’s Content Creation Score takes into account the many different features of the laptop that make it more or less suitable for photo editing, and video editing work. In addition to a strong emphasis on overall performance, this score also places very high importance on screen quality. Heat management, storage, keyboard and speaker quality are also incorporated, with fan noise rounding out this score.
Software Development:
4.1
PerfectRec’s Software Development Score takes into account the many different features of the laptop that make it more or less suitable for software development. In addition to a strong emphasis on overall performance, this score also places very high importance on screen quality. Heat management, storage, keyboard and speaker quality are also incorporated, with fan noise rounding out this score.
Battery Life:
4.0
PerfectRec’s Battery Life rating is based on hours of battery life in typical usage scenarios.
Engineering & Design:
3.6
The HP 15" Laptop's lower-resolution TN screen and basic integrated graphics may not offer the most vivid or accurate color display needed for design tasks, while the Intel i3 processor and 32GB of RAM can handle engineering software but may not be the fastest for highly demanding operations. Despite being fairly portable, the trade-off comes in performance which is adequate for entry-level engineering and design work but may not be sufficient for more intensive tasks.
Gaming & AI:
3.1
The HP 15" Laptop has an Intel UHD Xe G4 integrated graphics unit which is less capable for gaming and 3D applications compared to dedicated gaming GPUs, and its standard 60Hz refresh rate screen falls short for fast-paced games where higher refresh rates provide smoother visuals.
Build Quality:
3.0
PerfectRec’s Build Quality Score incorporates case materials, display and keyboard flex, hinge quality, chassis rigidity, and overall reliability. Our assessment of build quality includes many details that are difficult to quantify. Our laptop experts use their best judgment to produce the final score.
Keyboard Quality:
3.0
The Keyboard Quality score is based on the PerfectRec experts’ assessment of tactile feedback, typing comfort, keyboard reliability and typing noise.

Alex Iliev | August 2022
"Chances are high that the HP 15 is one of the first laptops to pop up when you search for an inexpensive notebook. Indeed, its price tag is very tempting for many, and of course, this is the reason for its popularity. However, the HP 15" suffers from poor performance due to low power consumption. On the bright side, one of the good things about it is the port selection. On the inside, this includes two SODIMM slots for memory, an M.2 PCIe x4 slot for storage, and a SATA drive bay. However, the TN panel, and mediocre input devices are not ideal."
