The HP 15" Laptop is a budget-friendly option with an Intel i3 processor and integrated graphics, suitable for general tasks like web browsing, office work, and media consumption. It comes with a moderately sized storage and a standard amount of RAM, making it a decent performer for everyday use but not ideal for intensive applications such as 3D rendering or heavy multitasking. The display is a 15.6-inch IPS panel with a full HD resolution, offering good color and viewing angles but not top-tier for color-sensitive work. It's relatively light and slim, enhancing portability, with a battery life that supports typical usage for a fair amount of time. It includes both USB-C and HDMI ports, and it has a number pad on the keyboard. While not made for gaming or heavy engineering software, it provides a solid foundation for general use and comes with Windows 11 Home pre-installed. Give Feedback

Ratings by Category

Operating Noise:
4.6
PerfectRec’s Operating Noise Score is based on fan noise measurements. Laptops with a fanless design, such as Macbooks, receive the maximum score.
Portability:
4.3
PerfectRec’s portability rating takes into account the volume and thickness of the laptop as well as its weight.
Battery Life:
4.0
PerfectRec’s Battery Life rating is based on hours of battery life in typical usage scenarios.
Content Creation:
3.9
PerfectRec’s Content Creation Score takes into account the many different features of the laptop that make it more or less suitable for photo editing, and video editing work. In addition to a strong emphasis on overall performance, this score also places very high importance on screen quality. Heat management, storage, keyboard and speaker quality are also incorporated, with fan noise rounding out this score.
General Use:
3.8
The HP 15" Laptop is equipped with an entry-level main processor and basic memory that handle everyday tasks well, but it may struggle with demanding applications. It has a decent display, moderate weight, and thickness, offering average portability and battery life, making it an adequate choice for general use but not for intensive gaming or heavy multitasking.
Software Development:
3.7
PerfectRec’s Software Development Score takes into account the many different features of the laptop that make it more or less suitable for software development. In addition to a strong emphasis on overall performance, this score also places very high importance on screen quality. Heat management, storage, keyboard and speaker quality are also incorporated, with fan noise rounding out this score.
General Use Screen Quality:
3.4
The general use screen score is based on the screen technology, contrast ratio, resolution, brightness, color gamut and color accuracy. This score does not take into account specialized display features for specific use cases, such as high refresh rate for gaming.
Engineering & Design:
3.2
The HP 15" Laptop is considered fair for engineering and design use because it has an Intel i3 processor and integrated UHD graphics, which provide adequate power for basic tasks but may struggle with more demanding engineering software and intensive design work. Additionally, while the screen quality is reasonable with an IPS panel offering decent sRGB color coverage, professionals seeking high color accuracy for intricate design work could find it lacking, despite the laptop's good portability and satisfactory keyboard quality.
Gaming & AI:
3.0
PerfectRec’s Gaming and AI Score strongly emphasizes graphics processing capability as well as AI performance, while also taking into account other factors that impact suitability for gaming and AI work. While performance (especially graphics performance) is the most important factor determining this score, we also give modest weight to screen quality, heat management, keyboard quality, and storage.
Build Quality:
3.0
PerfectRec’s Build Quality Score incorporates case materials, display and keyboard flex, hinge quality, chassis rigidity, and overall reliability. Our assessment of build quality includes many details that are difficult to quantify. Our laptop experts use their best judgment to produce the final score.
Keyboard Quality:
3.0
The Keyboard Quality score is based on the PerfectRec experts’ assessment of tactile feedback, typing comfort, keyboard reliability and typing noise.

Alex Iliev | August 2022
"Chances are high that the HP 15 is one of the first laptops to pop up when you search for an inexpensive notebook. Indeed, its price tag is very tempting for many, and of course, this is the reason for its popularity. However, the HP 15" suffers from poor performance due to low power consumption. On the bright side, one of the good things about it is the port selection. On the inside, this includes two SODIMM slots for memory, an M.2 PCIe x4 slot for storage, and a SATA drive bay. However, the TN panel, and mediocre input devices are not ideal."
