The HP 14" Laptop is a more budget-friendly option and typically less expensive than the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3, so if cost is a major consideration for you, the HP might be the better choice. However, if you value a more premium build and potentially better graphics performance, you might prefer the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3, even though it tends to be slightly more expensive. The HP has a larger 14-inch screen which could be better for multitasking, while the Surface Laptop Go 3 has a smaller 12.4-inch screen with a unique 3:2 aspect ratio, which is great for productivity and web browsing. Keep in mind that both laptops come with similar storage and memory, which should be adequate for general use. The HP's larger form factor might make it less portable than the lighter and more compact Surface Laptop Go 3, so if you are always on the move, the Microsoft Surface may be the better option. The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 has a better screen than the HP 14" Laptop for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 offers a superior viewing experience with higher resolution and brighter display, making text and images crisper and more vibrant, a noticeable advantage over the HP 14" Laptop's fair screen. When it comes to engineering and design tasks, color accuracy is crucial, and the Surface Laptop Go 3's display better covers professional color gamuts, providing richer and more accurate colors compared to the HP. However, for gaming and 3D applications, both laptops fall short because of their modest refresh rates, but the Surface's better resolution and panel type still provide an edge over the HP for those applications, although neither would be ideal for high-end gaming or complex 3D work.

How the HP 14" Laptop and the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 compare to other laptops
"This feels like an ideal laptop for someone who doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on a laptop and isn’t too bothered by things like build quality or construction. It’s a laptop that will be used to pay bills, keep track of expenses, do some online shopping, and will be tucked away in a spare bedroom/home office. It’s an appliance designed to do a job without fuss. It’s not a premium experience—the materials do feel a little cheap, the display won’t exactly wow you, and the battery life is nothing to write home about, especially if you’ve used more expensive devices. But overall it’s not too shabby, especially for the price."
"When it comes to affordably priced laptops, the numbers after the dollar sign are crucially important—more so than in any other price category. By increasing the starting price of its Laptop Go line by $200 and not changing much else, Microsoft irrevocably altered the calculus surrounding the decision of whether to buy the Surface Laptop Go 3. Sure, it has a newer processor and longer battery life, but don’t think for a second you’re not paying dearly for that extra RAM and SSD capacity at that new price."
