The Gateway 14.1" laptop is a budget-friendly option and comes with a 512 GB storage capacity and 16 GB of RAM. The heart of this machine is an Intel i5 processor with integrated Iris Xe graphics, which should provide decent everyday performance and handle less demanding graphics work. With a 14.1-inch screen, it has an IPS display panel that offers good viewing angles and a resolution of 1920 x 1080, but lacks a touchscreen feature. At less than an inch thick and weighing 4 pounds, the laptop is quite portable. This model does include good quality features such as a backlit keyboard and fingerprint reader for added convenience and security. However, it falls short on attributes like webcam and speaker quality, as well as a less impressive build and heat management. It was released in August 2021 with Windows 10 Home installed. The battery life performance is not explicitly mentioned, so it's important to consider that if you're looking for a device to use on the go without frequent charging. Overall, while it may not be ideal for intensive gaming or engineering software, it's a solid choice for general use and lighter tasks. Give Feedback

Portability:
4.3
PerfectRec’s portability rating takes into account the volume and thickness of the laptop as well as its weight.
Battery Life:
4.2
PerfectRec’s Battery Life rating is based on hours of battery life in typical usage scenarios.
General Use:
4.0
PerfectRec’s General Use Score takes into account the many different features of the laptop that make it more or less suitable for general productivity, web browsing, streaming, video calls, and running a wide variety of apps and programs. The most important factors in this score include CPU performance, amount of RAM, screen quality, storage, and battery life. Keyboard quality, speaker quality, low fan noise, heat management, and to a lesser extent webcam quality are all moderately important factors for this score.
Content Creation:
4.0
PerfectRec’s Content Creation Score takes into account the many different features of the laptop that make it more or less suitable for photo editing, and video editing work. In addition to a strong emphasis on overall performance, this score also places very high importance on screen quality. Heat management, storage, keyboard and speaker quality are also incorporated, with fan noise rounding out this score.
Operating Noise:
4.0
PerfectRec’s Operating Noise Score is based on fan noise measurements. Laptops with a fanless design, such as Macbooks, receive the maximum score.
Software Development:
3.7
PerfectRec’s Software Development Score takes into account the many different features of the laptop that make it more or less suitable for software development. Engineering & Design:
3.2
The Gateway 14.1" laptop's Intel i5 CPU and integrated Iris Xe GPU offer fair capabilities for engineering and design, but it's the screen's moderate color accuracy and brightness that limit its advantage for tasks requiring high color fidelity and detailed visuals.
Gaming & AI:
3.0
The Gateway 14.1" is equipped with an integrated Intel Iris Xe GPU, which can handle gaming and 3D tasks but isn't as powerful as dedicated gaming GPUs. Although it has a standard screen refresh rate of 60Hz, better suited for general use rather than high-end gaming which often benefits from higher rates.
General Use Screen Quality:
3.0
The general use screen score is based on the screen technology, contrast ratio, resolution, brightness, color gamut and color accuracy. This score does not take into account specialized display features for specific use cases, such as high refresh rate for gaming.

NotebookCheck

Allen Ngo | September 2021
"The Gateway Ultra Slim 14" is surprisingly quiet with long battery life. The inexpensive Gateway excels at maximizing performance per dollar with lots of RAM and storage, super-quiet fan, and a long battery life. It can even house up to two M.2 SSDs which we weren't expecting from such a cheap system. However, the iffy reliability of the keyboard and USB-C port on our test unit means users should double-check for these potential issues immediately after purchasing."
