The Dell Inspiron 15 3520 is only fair for engineering and design, while the HP 250 G10 is poor.
The Dell Inspiron 15 3520 outperforms the HP 250 G10 for engineering and design work primarily due to its better screen quality, offering a Full HD IPS display which is superior to the HP's lower-resolution TN screen. Additionally, the Dell's processor has integrated UHD graphics that, while not dedicated for high-end tasks, are more capable than the HP's basic Intel UHD Graphics, and coupled with more storage space, the Dell provides an overall fair performance against the HP's poor performance for engineering applications.

The Dell Inspiron 15 3520 has a better screen than the HP 250 G10 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
For general use, the Dell Inspiron's fair screen quality stems from a balance of decent resolution and brightness, providing an adequate visual experience for typical tasks like web browsing and document editing, whereas the HP's poor quality is due to inferior resolution and lower brightness, making it less enjoyable for daily activities. In engineering and design, the Dell's fair screen quality suggests acceptable coverage of color gamuts necessary for precision work, while the HP performs poorly, indicating limited color range that may not accurately represent designs. For gaming and 3D, the Dell's screen falls short primarily because of its lower refresh rate, which is critical for smooth visuals, and to a lesser extent, its resolution and panel type; the HP's screen quality for gaming is similarly hindered, likely even more so, due to these factors.
Although they have very similar scores, PerfectRec considers Dell Inspiron 15 3520 to be only fair for gaming and AI, while the HP 250 G10 is poor.
The Dell Inspiron 15 3520 offers a higher screen refresh rate and Full HD resolution which can lead to smoother and clearer visuals in gaming and 3D applications compared to the HP 250 G10, which has a lower screen refresh rate and resolution. Both devices have integrated graphics, which are not as powerful as discrete GPUs, but the Dell's higher refresh rate and better screen quality give it an edge for these activities.

How the Dell Inspiron 15 3520 and the HP 250 G10 compare to other laptops
"Dell's Inspiron 15 (3525) is a peppy-enough and affordable-enough home or remote work machine, but it's not very ambitious; it does little to go beyond the basics. More the concern: It’s readily overshadowed by a number of machines that outperform and outclass it. Even if the Inspiron can get the job done today, its competition has the mettle to keep doing the job tomorrow in a way the Inspiron simply can’t promise. Plus, those alternatives are much more enjoyable after work."
"The HP 250 G10 is a decent budget device that surprises us with its high CPU frequencies under load. Still, our configuration has a Core i5-1335U which doesn’t require significant cooling, if choose a 28W P-series processor, maybe the situation with the clocks could be different. If you want to play some casual game after work, a memory in dual-channel is a must because it increases greatly the iGPU performance."
