For a balance of performance and portability with a lower midrange price, the ASUS Vivobook S 15 is a solid choice, offering a capable AMD Ryzen 7 processor and a decent IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, suitable for general use and light engineering tasks. Its slim design and longer battery life make it ideal for on-the-go productivity. However, if you're looking for a powerhouse that can handle intensive gaming, 3D rendering, or machine learning tasks, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (2024) is the way to go, despite its upper midrange price. It boasts a high-performance Intel i7-14700HX processor and an Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU, which deliver exceptional performance for demanding applications. The Legion's higher resolution 2560 x 1600 display with a 165Hz refresh rate is also ideal for fast-motion content and engineering work that requires color accuracy. Keep in mind that the Legion is heavier and has a shorter battery life, making it less portable than the Vivobook. Give Feedback

NotebookCheck

Mario Petzold | February 2023
"Internals make Asus VivoBook S15 laptop a compelling option. The Asus multimedia laptop may look rather below-average with its modest black chassis, lack of a dedicated GPU, limited RAM and meagre port selection without Thunderbolt support. But your impression of the device will start changing once you set your eyes on its high-contrast OLED capable of producing deep blacks and highly accurate colours. And your opinion will change completely when the VivoBook is switched on. The AMD CPU can effortlessly keep up with powerful rivals from Intel. The integrated Radeon graphics blows away Intel's iGPU when it comes to graphics workloads such as rendering and simpler games."

PCMag

Brian Westover | August 2023
"The midpriced Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 follows some of our favorite gaming machines, including last year's model and the higher-end Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 tested earlier this year. But pedigree doesn't count for much in the computer world, and gaming laptops require a certain level of power and graphics performance to justify their prices. The Pro 5i Gen 8 just doesn't do that, offering middling CPU and GPU performance rather than the sort of muscle that would make it a great value."
