The ASUS Vivobook S 15, priced higher, offers more storage and double the RAM, with a stronger processor that is better for intensive engineering tasks, but it is heavier and larger, making it less portable. The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3, more affordable, has a touchscreen and somewhat better battery life, and is lighter for enhanced portability. It may suffice for general use and lighter workloads. Since neither is designed for serious gaming or high-end 3D tasks, your choice would likely hinge on whether you value price and portability or superior performance and storage capacity. The ASUS Vivobook S 15 and Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 are both good for general use, though the ASUS Vivobook S 15 is somewhat better.
The ASUS Vivobook S 15 is suited for general use due to its higher RAM and more powerful CPU, which help in smoother multitasking and faster performance, along with better screen quality for clearer visuals; although, its larger battery lends to more weight, impacting portability slightly. Conversely, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3, while lighter and thus more portable with slightly longer battery life, has less RAM and a less robust CPU, which may slow down performance, and the screen quality, while still good, isn't quite up to par with the ASUS's display.

The ASUS Vivobook S 15 has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 for software development, and content creation.
For general use, both the ASUS Vivobook S 15 and the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 provide sufficient screen resolution and brightness for tasks like web browsing and document editing, but their panel types might not offer the best viewing angles or color reproduction. In the realm of engineering and design, professionals may find the color accuracy limited due to the screens not covering a wide range of color gamuts, which can be crucial for precise visual work. When it comes to gaming and 3D applications, the lower refresh rates on these laptops could lead to less fluid motion and responsiveness, which are important for an immersive and interactive experience.

How the ASUS Vivobook S 15 and the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 compare to other laptops
"Internals make Asus VivoBook S15 laptop a compelling option. The Asus multimedia laptop may look rather below-average with its modest black chassis, lack of a dedicated GPU, limited RAM and meagre port selection without Thunderbolt support. But your impression of the device will start changing once you set your eyes on its high-contrast OLED capable of producing deep blacks and highly accurate colours. And your opinion will change completely when the VivoBook is switched on. The AMD CPU can effortlessly keep up with powerful rivals from Intel. The integrated Radeon graphics blows away Intel's iGPU when it comes to graphics workloads such as rendering and simpler games."
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | May 2023
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3i is decent for use as a workstation. Its Intel CPU and integrated graphics can only handle light productivity tasks, not demanding workloads like video editing or 3D graphics. You also can't do any color-critical work because the available displays have a narrow color gamut. It has a good port selection, but its USB-C lacks Thunderbolt 4 support. On the upside, it has a comfortable keyboard and doesn't get hot or loud under load."
