For general use, the ASUS Vivobook 16 offers excellent value with its lower midrange price, ample RAM, and a capable processor that will handle everyday tasks with ease. Its screen is sharp with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 and a taller 16:10 aspect ratio, which is great for productivity. However, its battery life is shorter compared to the Lenovo, and it lacks the premium build quality and advanced features of gaming laptops.
On the other hand, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (2024) is priced higher but delivers superior performance for gaming, 3D rendering, and machine learning tasks with its powerful Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU and Intel i7-14700HX processor. The Legion's screen has a higher refresh rate of 165Hz and a higher resolution of 2560 x 1600, making it suitable for intensive gaming and more demanding visual tasks. It also offers better color accuracy and a wider color gamut, which is beneficial for content creation.
The Legion is heavier and thicker, which impacts its portability, but it comes with more advanced connectivity options, including additional USB-C and Thunderbolt ports. It also has a better cooling system to manage heat during intense gaming sessions.
In summary, if you prioritize portability, battery life, and a lower price point for everyday tasks, the ASUS Vivobook 16 is a solid choice. However, if you're looking for a machine that can handle demanding applications and gaming with better performance and a more advanced feature set, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (2024) is the way to go, despite its higher cost and reduced portability. How the ASUS Vivobook 16 and the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (2024) compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, Yannick Khong | May 2023
"The ASUS Vivobook 16 M1605 (2023) is a budget Windows laptop. It's available with various AMD Ryzen 5000 and 7000 U-series CPUs and integrated graphics. You can only get 8GB of RAM; however, there's an empty SO-DIMM slot if you want to upgrade it. It has an FHD+ (1920 x 1200) 16:10 IPS display, a full-size keyboard with a Numpad, a 720p webcam, and Wi-Fi 6E wireless connectivity. Ports include three USB-As, one USB-C, an HDMI, and a headphone jack. The USB-C supports charging but no video output."
"The midpriced Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 follows some of our favorite gaming machines, including last year's model and the higher-end Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 tested earlier this year. But pedigree doesn't count for much in the computer world, and gaming laptops require a certain level of power and graphics performance to justify their prices. The Pro 5i Gen 8 just doesn't do that, offering middling CPU and GPU performance rather than the sort of muscle that would make it a great value."
