Choosing between an ASUS Vivobook 16 and an HP Omen 17 depends on your needs. The ASUS Vivobook is less expensive, lighter, and more portable, making it suitable for general use and carrying around. It has decent performance for everyday tasks but is not ideal for heavy gaming or engineering applications. The HP Omen is more expensive and heavier, with a larger screen and significantly better performance for intensive 3D rendering, machine learning, and gaming, due to its powerful CPU and GPU. It also has a higher screen refresh rate and better color space coverage, which benefits entertainment and professional creative work. However, its portability is lower due to its size and weight. The HP Omen 17 is excellent for gaming and AI, while the ASUS Vivobook 16 is only fair.
The HP Omen 17 delivers very good gaming and 3D performance because it is equipped with an Nvidia RTX 4080 GPU and a high refresh rate screen, lending to fluid visuals in fast-paced scenes, crucial for gaming. On the other hand, the ASUS Vivobook 16, with its more modest Vega 8 graphics and lower refresh rate display, offers fair performance suitable for less demanding gaming and 3D applications.

The HP Omen 17 is very good for engineering and design, while the ASUS Vivobook 16 is good.
The ASUS Vivobook 16, with its AMD processor and integrated graphics, offers moderate performance and is more portable, making it suitable for engineering and design tasks that are less graphically intensive. In contrast, the HP Omen 17 is equipped with a high-performance Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU, larger and higher-quality screen, and superior build quality, which together provide very good capabilities for more demanding engineering and design workloads, though it is less portable due to its larger size and heavier weight.

The HP Omen 17 has a better screen than the ASUS Vivobook 16 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The ASUS Vivobook 16 has a panel with adequate brightness and resolution for everyday tasks, but it may lack the color accuracy needed for precise engineering and design work, and the lower refresh rate could hinder the smoothness required in fast-paced 3D applications. The HP Omen 17 offers a higher resolution and better brightness, enhancing the experience for general usage and providing the needed clarity and color space coverage for professional design tasks, but for gaming and 3D work, its refresh rate, while satisfactory for many scenarios, might not match the highest standards demanded by those fields. Overall, the Omen 17 leans towards providing a stronger visual performance in most areas, except for the high-refresh-rate needs of competitive 3D gaming.

How the ASUS Vivobook 16 and the HP Omen 17 compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, Yannick Khong | May 2023
"The ASUS Vivobook 16 M1605 (2023) is a budget Windows laptop. It's available with various AMD Ryzen 5000 and 7000 U-series CPUs and integrated graphics. You can only get 8GB of RAM; however, there's an empty SO-DIMM slot if you want to upgrade it. It has an FHD+ (1920 x 1200) 16:10 IPS display, a full-size keyboard with a Numpad, a 720p webcam, and Wi-Fi 6E wireless connectivity. Ports include three USB-As, one USB-C, an HDMI, and a headphone jack. The USB-C supports charging but no video output."
"The HP Omen 17 (2022) gaming laptop has a stylish case and hardware with lots of potential. The HP Omen 17 is a fairly unobtrusive gaming laptop. A material combination of plastic and metal gives the case a high stability and a quality surface feel. The unspectacular design is pleasing and is hardly indicative of the laptop's high performance potential. The Intel Core i7-12700H in particular is able to perform well once again. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is also strong in the gaming notebook. Demanding games run smoothly in Full HD resolution. The HP Omen 17 is a good gaming laptop that delivers partly excellent performance. But even at this performance level, cheaper alternatives are available."
