The ASUS Vivobook 16 offers long battery life and is priced on the lower midrange, making it friendly on your wallet, particularly suited for general usage with its decent performance and keyboard quality. It's lighter and relatively thin, enhancing its portability. However, the Gigabyte Aorus 5, while more expensive, packs a more powerful punch with its high-end graphics card and processor, making it an excellent choice for 3D rendering, machine learning, or demanding engineering applications. It has better screen color coverage, which will be an advantage for visually intensive tasks but trades off with shorter battery life and increased weight. If gaming or power-intensive tasks are a priority, and budget is less of a concern, the Aorus 5 will serve you well; for everyday tasks with the benefit of greater portability and better battery life, the Vivobook 16 is the go-to. The Gigabyte Aorus 5 is very good for engineering and design, while the ASUS Vivobook 16 is good.
The Gigabyte Aorus 5 outperforms the ASUS Vivobook 16 for engineering and design largely due to its superior Intel i7 processor and Nvidia RTX GPU, which offer more robust performance for demanding tasks compared to the ASUS's AMD setup. Additionally, the Aorus 5's screen displays more vivid colors and its higher RAM capacity allows for smoother multitasking, although it is less portable and slightly louder in operation than the lighter ASUS Vivobook with quieter fans.

The Gigabyte Aorus 5 has a better screen than the ASUS Vivobook 16 for general use, gaming and AI, and engineering and design.
For general use, a laptop with a high-resolution, bright display, and an IPS panel, like the Gigabyte Aorus 5, enhances the viewing experience with clearer images and better viewing angles, while the Vivobook's fair screen may not be as vibrant or sharp. In engineering and design, color accuracy is key; the Aorus 5's good screen with wider color gamuts ensures more precise color representation which is essential for detailed work, unlike the Vivobook with its fair color coverage. When it comes to 3D, high refresh rates contribute to smoother visuals critical for gaming; the Vivobook's poor refresh rate leads to less fluid movement, while the Aorus 5, despite a better overall display, still falls short for high-end gaming due to its limited refresh rate.

How the ASUS Vivobook 16 and the Gigabyte Aorus 5 compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, Yannick Khong | May 2023
"The ASUS Vivobook 16 M1605 (2023) is a budget Windows laptop. It's available with various AMD Ryzen 5000 and 7000 U-series CPUs and integrated graphics. You can only get 8GB of RAM; however, there's an empty SO-DIMM slot if you want to upgrade it. It has an FHD+ (1920 x 1200) 16:10 IPS display, a full-size keyboard with a Numpad, a 720p webcam, and Wi-Fi 6E wireless connectivity. Ports include three USB-As, one USB-C, an HDMI, and a headphone jack. The USB-C supports charging but no video output."
"The Gigabyte Aorus 5 SE4 is a capable mainstream gaming notebook that will run the latest PC games with aplomb. However, it's not your stereotypical flashy gaming PC. Gigabyte has added some interesting tweaks. For example, the webcam placement and its Microsoft Azure AI tool — to automatically switch between power modes — are unusual for this genre. But more importantly, the pricing is fairly competitive and reasonable."
