For general use, the ASUS Vivobook 15X offers better performance due to a stronger processor and more RAM, but it comes at a higher price. It is suitable for some engineering tasks and light 3D work, thanks to its Ryzen 5 processor and Vega 7 graphics, but its larger size and weight reduce portability. On the other hand, the Gateway 14.1" is more affordable with basic features, suited for simple tasks due to its Intel Celeron processor and limited storage. Despite being lighter and more portable, it's not recommended for intensive tasks, engineering software, or gaming. Both laptops have similar screen sizes and lack features for intensive gaming. The ASUS Vivobook 15X has a better screen than the Gateway 14.1" for general use, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
For general use, both the ASUS Vivobook 15X and the Gateway 14.1" offer screen characteristics that satisfy daily tasks like web browsing and document editing, with resolution and brightness that are adequate though not exceptional. In engineering and design work where accurate color representation is crucial, both laptops provide enough color range to handle less demanding tasks but may fall short for professional color work that requires wider color gamuts. However, for gaming and 3D applications, the lower refresh rates on both laptops mean less fluid motion and responsiveness, making them less suitable for fast-paced or visually intensive applications.

How the ASUS Vivobook 15X and the Gateway 14.1" compare to other laptops
"All in all, my day on the Vivobook had its ups and downs. It is a really pretty and well-built device, and it had all of the functionality I needed to get me through my browser-based workload. But the speakers weren’t my favorite, and the battery life was just too short."
"The Gateway Ultra Slim 14" is surprisingly quiet with long battery life. The inexpensive Gateway excels at maximizing performance per dollar with lots of RAM and storage, super-quiet fan, and a long battery life. It can even house up to two M.2 SSDs which we weren't expecting from such a cheap system. However, the iffy reliability of the keyboard and USB-C port on our test unit means users should double-check for these potential issues immediately after purchasing."
