The MSI Modern 14 has a better screen than the ASUS Vivobook 14 for general use, content creation, and software development.
For general use, both the ASUS Vivobook 14 and the MSI Modern 14 offer fair screen quality considering their resolution and brightness, which suffice for everyday tasks like browsing, word processing, and video streaming, but they might not stand out in terms of sharpness or vividness. When it comes to engineering and design, both laptops have limitations in accurately representing colors due to their restricted color gamuts, making them less suitable for professional graphic work where color precision is crucial. As for gaming and 3D applications, neither laptop is ideal as they both lack high refresh rates for smooth visuals, and the resolution and panel quality are only adequate, which could hinder the immersive experience expected in these use cases.

The MSI Modern 14 and ASUS Vivobook 14 are both only fair for engineering and design.
The ASUS Vivobook 14, with an Intel i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and integrated Iris Xe graphics, offers modest power sufficient for basic engineering and design tasks, but could be limited for more complex applications. In contrast, the MSI Modern 14 steps up with a Ryzen 5 CPU, double the RAM at 16GB, and Vega 7 integrated graphics, providing a more robust performance for the same uses, though both have similar IPS displays that deliver clear images but may not be optimal for high-end graphics work.

How the ASUS Vivobook 14 and the MSI Modern 14 compare to other laptops
Alexander Tozzi, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | October 2023
"The MSI Modern 14 is okay for school use. It's very compact, so it's easy to carry around. It has a sharp display, a spacious keyboard, and a reasonably large touchpad. Its Intel 13th Gen CPU and integrated graphics can handle general productivity tasks like text processing and web browsing; however, don't expect to do anything intensive like 3D modeling or physics simulations. Unfortunately, the battery lasts less than five hours of light use, and the display doesn't get bright enough to combat glare."
