The Acer Nitro 5 15 offers solid performance for general use and is well-suited for intensive gaming, courtesy of its Nvidia RTX 3060 graphics card. It is in the midrange price segment and comes with a moderate battery life. Featuring an Intel i5 processor and 8 GB RAM, it handles daily tasks and multitasking adequately. With 256 GB of storage, users looking for more space might need additional storage solutions. It's relatively portable at 4.85 pounds but not the lightest option out there. The 15.6-inch IPS display provides good colors and a smooth experience with a high refresh rate, making it suitable for gaming and entertainment, but creative professionals may seek higher color accuracy and resolution. With good heat management and a range of ports including Ethernet and HDMI, but without a Thunderbolt, it's versatile for connectivity but may not satisfy those needing the fastest data transfer speeds. Operating Noise:
4.2
PerfectRec’s Operating Noise Score is based on fan noise measurements. Laptops with a fanless design, such as Macbooks, receive the maximum score.
Build Quality:
4.1
PerfectRec’s Build Quality Score incorporates case materials, display and keyboard flex, hinge quality, chassis rigidity, and overall reliability. Our assessment of build quality includes many details that are difficult to quantify. Our laptop experts use their best judgment to produce the final score.
General Use:
4.0
The Acer Nitro 5 15 has a solid CPU and sufficient RAM for everyday tasks, but its average screen quality and limited battery life may not satisfy all users' needs for prolonged use without charging. The laptop is reasonably portable but leans towards heavier and larger dimensions, which could impact its convenience for on-the-go use.
Gaming & AI:
4.0
The Acer Nitro 5 15 is fair for gaming and 3D tasks mainly because it features an Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU which can handle graphically-intensive games smoothly, and it offers a high screen refresh rate of 144 Hz, which provides a more fluid and responsive visual experience during fast-paced gaming. However, its IPS screen, while offering good color accuracy and viewing angles, has a standard resolution and may not match the quality of higher-end panels that boast superior color depth and higher resolutions, which are also factors in overall gaming and 3D performance.
Engineering & Design:
4.0
The Acer Nitro 5 15 is good for engineering and design due to its powerful Intel i5 processor and Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU, which provide strong performance for software used in these fields, supported by a display that has a decent range of color coverage, aiding in tasks requiring color accuracy.

NotebookCheck

Sascha Mölck | June 2022
"The Acer Nitro 5 is a fast QHD gaming notebook. The Nitro 5 is a well-balanced gaming laptop for just under US$ 2400. A Core i7-12700H CPU and a GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU enable QHD gaming at high to maximum settings, accompanied by fast PCIe-4-SSD (1 TB) and 16 GB of RAM. Acer delivers a solid QHD gaming notebook with the Nitro 5 AN515-58. However, the laptop is not completely free of shortcomings. The CPU and GPU can work at consistently high clock rates. The laptop heats up noticeably under load, but not excessively. Noise development is on the usual class level. Once again, however, Acer needs to improve the fan control."
