Ratings by Category

Operating Noise:
4.2
PerfectRec’s Operating Noise Score is based on fan noise measurements. Laptops with a fanless design, such as Macbooks, receive the maximum score.
Build Quality:
4.1
PerfectRec’s Build Quality Score incorporates case materials, display and keyboard flex, hinge quality, chassis rigidity, and overall reliability. Our assessment of build quality includes many details that are difficult to quantify. Our laptop experts use their best judgment to produce the final score.
Battery Life:
4.0
PerfectRec’s Battery Life rating is based on hours of battery life in typical usage scenarios.
Portability:
4.0
PerfectRec’s portability rating takes into account the volume and thickness of the laptop as well as its weight.
General Use Screen Quality:
4.0
The general use screen score is based on the screen technology, contrast ratio, resolution, brightness, color gamut and color accuracy. This score does not take into account specialized display features for specific use cases, such as high refresh rate for gaming.
Keyboard Quality:
4.0
The Keyboard Quality score is based on the PerfectRec experts’ assessment of tactile feedback, typing comfort, keyboard reliability and typing noise.
Content Creation:
3.8
PerfectRec’s Content Creation Score takes into account the many different features of the laptop that make it more or less suitable for photo editing, and video editing work. In addition to a strong emphasis on overall performance, this score also places very high importance on screen quality. Heat management, storage, keyboard and speaker quality are also incorporated, with fan noise rounding out this score.
General Use:
3.4
The Acer Nitro 5 15 offers a fair balance for general use with a solid processor and adequate RAM to handle most tasks, though its 6-hour battery life might limit uninterrupted use away from power outlets. Additionally, at just over 5 pounds, it is moderately portable, but some users might find it less convenient for frequent travel.
Engineering & Design:
3.4
The Acer Nitro 5 15 is equipped with an Intel i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and an Nvidia RTX 3050 GPU, which collectively provide solid performance for engineering tasks but may lack the prowess for more demanding design software and multitasking. The IPS display offers good quality visuals with a high refresh rate, but the weight and moderate battery life indicate a compromise in terms of portability for users who need to move frequently.
Software Development:
3.4
PerfectRec’s Software Development Score takes into account the many different features of the laptop that make it more or less suitable for software development. In addition to a strong emphasis on overall performance, this score also places very high importance on screen quality. Heat management, storage, keyboard and speaker quality are also incorporated, with fan noise rounding out this score.
Gaming & AI:
3.3
The Acer Nitro 5 15 is equipped with a capable Nvidia RTX 3050 GPU and an impressive 144 Hz screen refresh rate, both of which are very important for smooth gaming and 3D application performance. However, its screen quality covers lower percentages in color space ranges, and with an entry-level main processor, the performance might lag in highly demanding tasks.

NotebookCheck

Sascha Mölck | June 2022
"The Acer Nitro 5 is a fast QHD gaming notebook. The Nitro 5 is a well-balanced gaming laptop for just under US$ 2400. A Core i7-12700H CPU and a GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU enable QHD gaming at high to maximum settings, accompanied by fast PCIe-4-SSD (1 TB) and 16 GB of RAM. Acer delivers a solid QHD gaming notebook with the Nitro 5 AN515-58. However, the laptop is not completely free of shortcomings. The CPU and GPU can work at consistently high clock rates. The laptop heats up noticeably under load, but not excessively. Noise development is on the usual class level. Once again, however, Acer needs to improve the fan control."
