The Acer Aspire 5 15 is a budget-friendly option with a 15.6-inch IPS display and a resolution that is standard for clear visuals, but not touchscreen enabled. It runs on an AMD Ryzen 5 processor with integrated graphics, which is capable for day-to-day tasks and light multimedia usage, but may not be as suitable for heavy gaming or intensive engineering applications. It offers a decent amount of storage and RAM for general use. The battery life is moderate, providing about 8 hours of typical use. It's relatively light and slim, which makes it somewhat portable. Also, it comes with Windows 11 Home pre-installed, has some convenient features like a backlit keyboard with a number pad and a USB-C port that supports charging. For more rigorous 3D or machine learning tasks, the performance may be limited due to the lack of a dedicated GPU. Additionally, while the color coverage is fair, professionals needing accurate color representation for tasks like photo editing could find it lacking. It does, however, have good portability and general use performance for everyday activities and multitasking. Give Feedback

Ratings by Category

Portability:
4.3
PerfectRec’s portability rating takes into account the volume and thickness of the laptop as well as its weight.
Battery Life:
4.2
PerfectRec’s Battery Life rating is based on hours of battery life in typical usage scenarios.
Operating Noise:
4.2
PerfectRec’s Operating Noise Score is based on fan noise measurements. Laptops with a fanless design, such as Macbooks, receive the maximum score.
General Use:
4.1
The Acer Aspire 5 15 has a solid processor and adequate memory for everyday tasks but is held back by its average screen and limited battery life, making it a reasonable choice for general use that’s balanced by cost considerations. It's fairly portable due to its moderate weight and thickness, yet these factors, alongside storage and input quality, do not excel above the norm, placing it squarely in the 'fair' category for generic needs.
Content Creation:
4.1
PerfectRec’s Content Creation Score takes into account the many different features of the laptop that make it more or less suitable for photo editing, and video editing work. In addition to a strong emphasis on overall performance, this score also places very high importance on screen quality. Heat management, storage, keyboard and speaker quality are also incorporated, with fan noise rounding out this score.
Software Development:
4.0
PerfectRec’s Software Development Score takes into account the many different features of the laptop that make it more or less suitable for software development. In addition to a strong emphasis on overall performance, this score also places very high importance on screen quality. Heat management, storage, keyboard and speaker quality are also incorporated, with fan noise rounding out this score.
Keyboard Quality:
4.0
The Keyboard Quality score is based on the PerfectRec experts’ assessment of tactile feedback, typing comfort, keyboard reliability and typing noise.
Build Quality:
3.5
PerfectRec’s Build Quality Score incorporates case materials, display and keyboard flex, hinge quality, chassis rigidity, and overall reliability. Our assessment of build quality includes many details that are difficult to quantify. Our laptop experts use their best judgment to produce the final score.
Engineering & Design:
3.4
The Acer Aspire 5 15 is equipped with a mid-range AMD processor and integrated graphics, which are adequate for some engineering and design tasks but may struggle with more demanding software. Although the screen size is ample, the limited color coverage and average contrast ratio mean it's not ideal for color-critical work.
Gaming & AI:
3.1
PerfectRec’s Gaming and AI Score strongly emphasizes graphics processing capability as well as AI performance, while also taking into account other factors that impact suitability for gaming and AI work. While performance (especially graphics performance) is the most important factor determining this score, we also give modest weight to screen quality, heat management, keyboard quality, and storage.
General Use Screen Quality:
3.0
The general use screen score is based on the screen technology, contrast ratio, resolution, brightness, color gamut and color accuracy. This score does not take into account specialized display features for specific use cases, such as high refresh rate for gaming.

NotebookCheck

Sascha Mölck | November 2022
"The Acer Aspire 5 15 is a good value office laptop with reasonable battery life. The combination of slim exterior, relatively low weight (approx. 1.7 kg) and 8 hour real-life battery runtime makes the Acer Aspire a truly mobile laptop. The modest Tiger Lake processor supports this area and simultaneously ensures an affordable price point. The Aspire produces little noise and stays cool. The screen (FHD, IPS) might not win any prizes but is entirely appropriate for the price."
