The HP Pavilion 15 is good for general use, while the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is only fair.
The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 offers modest performance with its Intel i3 processor and 8GB of RAM, which is adequate for general tasks, while its superior battery life and 2-in-1 versatility contribute to a fair assessment for general use. The HP Pavilion 15, on the other hand, with a more robust Intel i3 processor and double the RAM at 16GB, enables smoother multitasking and overall better performance for a wider range of activities, warranting its good rating; however, its shorter battery life compared to the Acer may limit its portability and convenience for prolonged use away from power sources.

The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 has a better screen than the HP Pavilion 15 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, and software development.
The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 offers a balance suitable for general tasks with decent resolution and brightness, making it easier on the eyes during varied lighting conditions and standard use. When it comes to engineering and design, while the color representation is acceptable, it lacks the wider color gamuts professionals look for in precision work. However, for gaming and 3D work, where smooth motion is key, its lower refresh rate holds it back from delivering the fluid visuals that these applications demand.
Battery

3.0 Hours
The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 has 8 hours of battery life. The HP Pavilion 15 has 3 hours of battery life.
Battery life estimate is based on a mix of common use patterns. More portable and higher performing laptops tend to have less battery life.
Although they have very similar scores, PerfectRec considers HP Pavilion 15 to be only fair for gaming and AI, while the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is poor.
The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 and the HP Pavilion 15 are considered fair for gaming and 3D because they both come with integrated graphics (Intel UHD Graphics Xe) that provide baseline performance for less demanding games and 3D applications, but they may struggle with more intensive tasks. Both laptops have a standard screen refresh rate of 60Hz which is adequate for casual gaming but won't provide the smooth experience offered by higher refresh rates found in specialized gaming laptops.

Although they have very similar scores, PerfectRec considers HP Pavilion 15 to be only fair for engineering and design, while the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is poor.
The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 offers a higher resolution IPS touchscreen display and silent operation for a comfortable engineering and design experience, but it has less RAM and a less spacious storage compared to the HP Pavilion 15, which, despite its lower-resolution TN display, features more RAM and significantly more internal storage, possibly enhancing multitasking and large project management. While both have modest CPUs and integrated graphics which are adequate for light to moderate tasks, neither is optimal for demanding engineering software or complex design tasks due to their mid-range processors and limited graphical capabilities.

How the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 and the HP Pavilion 15 compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and Yannick Khong | November 2023
"The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is okay for school use. It feels reasonably well-built, and its compact design makes it easy to carry around. The battery lasts around seven hours of light use, so you only have to plug it in for a short time to get through a typical school day. The overall user experience is so-so; the display looks sharp but dim, and the touchpad is fairly responsive, albeit small."
"The HP Pavilion 15 carries a fair amount of power and a sharp display in its handsome slimline shell. It's not perfect, but it's a hard worker. This is wonderfully designed and totes a heck of a lot of desktop power, with the added benefit of a decent webcam and a full-sized keyboard. If you're getting down to business on a budget, it's a great fit."
